Move Write Teacher's Manual

The Move Write Teacher’s Manual is a practical, research-based resource designed to support the development of the essential motor and visual skills children need for successful handwriting.

Created by Sinéad McCauley Lambe, the programme takes a whole-body approach to handwriting, helping teachers build the foundations for writing through gross motor, fine motor and visual perception activities.

Easy to use in the classroom, the manual provides a clear Move Write session structure, progressing from movement and motor activities through to sensory exploration, letter formation and handwriting practice.

Inside the Teacher’s Manual

• Gross motor activities supporting proprioception, spatial awareness, bilateral coordination, balance, stability and core strength
• Fine motor activities including pegs, tongs and tweezers, finger play, construction activities, clay, putty and play dough
• Visual perception activities targeting visual discrimination, visual closure, form constancy and visual-sequential memory

Activities are clearly presented with equipment lists, teaching points and differentiation suggestions, making it simple for teachers to incorporate purposeful motor development into everyday classroom practice. Examples include hands-on pom-pom and tong activities as well as structured finger-play exercises.

The manual also includes useful assessment and support materials such as the Writing with Good Posture poster and an Emergent Handwriting Assessment, helping teachers identify and support individual handwriting needs.
